CARSON, California — The LA Galaxy signed former MLS MVP and traded their first-round pick in the SuperDraft to Colorado for targeted allocation money Thursday.

The Galaxy also acquired promising young forward Emmanuel Boateng from Sweden's Helsingsborg IF.

Magee won two MLS Cup titles and became a fan favorite during his first tenure with the Galaxy from 2009-13. The forward spent the past three seasons in his hometown with the Chicago Fire after the Galaxy traded him for defender , who was re-signed by the Galaxy earlier in the week.

Magee scored 21 goals and won the MVP award in 2013 despite the midseason trade for Rogers, who emerged as an elite MLS defender. The 31-year-old Magee has played in just 29 games over the past two years because of injury.

"Mike has shown that he is one of the most versatile and effective players in our league," said Bruce Arena, the Galaxy's coach and general manager. "He is familiar with our club and will be a key part of our team on and off the field."

Boateng was honored as the top high school soccer player in the U.S. in 2012 at the Cate School in Carpinteria, California. The Ghanaian-born goal-scorer played at UC Santa Barbara before turning pro in Sweden's top division, where he has scored four goals in 37 appearances for Helsingsborg.

The Galaxy also re-signed forward Jose Villareal and midfielder earlier in the week.
