FRENCH VALLEY, California — The Riverside County Sheriff's department says deputies shot and killed a domestic violence suspect after he raised a rifle at them.
A department statement said 35-year-old Otavis Hall died early Sunday following a brief standoff at a French Valley house.
The statement said a woman called 911 to report she and her two young children were in the house with Hall, who was armed with a long rifle. During the 911 call, a dispatcher heard several gun shots in the background.
Authorities said when deputies arrived Hall refused to speak to them and came out of a garage door with a rifle in his hands. He was shot after he ignored orders to drop the rifle and raised the weapon at deputies.
The woman and her children were not injured.
