BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Birmingham police have identified a woman found stabbed to death inside her home as Linda Allbritton, who was in her 70s.

WBRC-TV reports that officers believe a burglar broke into her home in the Avondale area around 6 p.m. Sunday, encountered the woman and stabbed her in the chest and neck.

Police said in a statement that a neighbor found Allbritton's body when she went to check on her at the residence on 39th Street South.

Detectives said Allbritton's vehicle, a tan Buick Park Avenue, was taken from the residence. Al.com reports that police later recovered the vehicle.

No arrests have been made.
