Oil, gas regulator hopes to put some of task force's recommendations in effect this year

RIFLE, Colorado — The head of Colorado's oil and gas regulators says he hopes some recommendations from a state task force can be implemented this year.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported Thursday ( ) Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission Director Matt Lepore would like to have new rules in place before the Legislature reconvenes in January 2016.

The commission that oversees the regulatory agency would have to vote on the rules.

The task force recommendations include changing oil and gas commission rules to give local governments a consulting role in decisions on where large oilfield facilities are located.

Other recommendations include studying ways to reduce truck traffic and creating an oil and gas information clearinghouse.

The panel rejected suggestions that local governments be allowed to set their own location rules.
