Pa. unemployment rate drops slightly in April

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania — Pennsylvania's unemployment rate declined slightly last month, but remains above the national rate.

The state Department of Labor & Industry said Friday the April rate of 7.6 percent compared to 7.9 percent in March. The national jobless rate for April was 7.5 percent.

A survey of households showed the number of Pennsylvanians working or looking for work declined by about 3,600 over the month but remained just above 6.5 million.

The department says total employment increased by 13,000 and total unemployment declined by 17,000.

Payrolls increased by nearly 7,000 in April to almost 5.8 million.
