YAKIMA, Washington — Tournament MVP Kara Bajema scored 13 points to lead four double-figure scorers as Lynden Christian beat King's 55-40 on Saturday for the Class 1A girl state championship.
Courtney Hollander and Sally Vlas added 11 points each, and Sara Dougan chipped in 10 as the Lyncs built an early lead they never relinquished. Hollander led the defensive effort with 13 of her team's 43 rebounds, and Dougan pulled down eight.
The Knights (24-5) pulled within two points late in the game, but LC (25-3) took control with a 17-6 run over the final period.
Karly Hibbard led King's with 14 points and Julia Bernson scored 13.
Joining Bajema on the all-tournament first team was Hollander, Bernson, Lauren Johnson of Cashmere and Jill Townsend of Okanogan.
In the third-place game, Lauren Johnson poured in a game-high 24 points to lead Cashmere to a 47-35 victory over Blaine. Johnson made 9 of 16 shots, including 6 of 9 3-pointers. Breanne Knishka added 10 points for the Bulldogs. Taylor V'Dovec led the Borderites with 14 points, and Alexis McElwain chipped in 10 and grabbed nine rebounds. V'Dovec also had seven blocked shots.
Earlier, Jill Townsend scored 11 points to lead Okanogan over Granger, 47-33, for fourth place as the Bulldogs built an early lead and were never threatened down the stretch. Cameron Moses and Jordyn Boesel added eight points each for Okanogan. Alexis Castro scored a game-high 20 points to lead Granger.
