Woman, 6-year-old niece seriously injured in hit-and-run accident in Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut — A 60-year-old woman and her 6-year-old niece have been seriously hurt in a hit-and-run accident in Bridgeport.

Police spokesman William Kaempffer says the pair was crossing Washington Avenue at the intersection of Highland Street at about 8:45 p.m. on Monday night when they were struck by a light-colored sport utility vehicle, which sped off.

Both victims were taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where they were listed in critical condition.

Kaempffer says two other children who were with the woman made it safely across the street.

The names of the victims have not been released.

This is the second hit-and-run accident involving a Bridgeport child in a month.

A 2-year-old boy, Corey Gordon, was struck at seriously injured on Capitol Avenue on April 30.
