Police: Man wanted for escaping from Pa. jail arrested in western NY after TV show tip

ARKWRIGHT, N.Y. — New York state police say they've captured a fugitive who escaped from a Pennsylvania jail in 2007.

They say 28-year-old Joseph Chapman was arrested Sunday after investigators got a tip he was living under the name Joshua Tompkins near the Chautauqua County town of Arkwright.

Troopers say the tip came from a local resident who recognized Chapman on an episode of the television show "America's Most Wanted."

Chapman was wanted for escaping from the McKean County Jail in July 2007 and for Pennsylvania warrants involving sexual assault of a child and rape charges.

He's being held Monday on a fugitive from justice charge in the Chautauqua County jail. It wasn't immediately known if he has a lawyer.

Arkwright is 40 miles southwest of Buffalo.
