Man, 58, dies in custody shortly after arrest at Kern County mobile home park


BAKERSFIELD, California — Kern County sheriff's officials say a 58-year-old man died in custody after fighting with deputies during his arrest.

Department spokesman Ray Pruitt says the man experienced unspecified medical problems shortly after being placed in handcuffs Wednesday in the Mountain Mesa area.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The coroner's office identified him as Michael Earl Lemon of Lake Isabella.

KBAK-TV reports ( ) Lemon was arrested at a mobile home park after someone complained of a man causing a disturbance.

An autopsy is planned.
