PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — A 36-year-old Newport man has been ordered held on federal drug and weapons charges after authorities allegedly seized cocaine, marijuana and guns from his vehicle and residence.
U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha and Newport Police Chief Gary Silva said Tuesday Ian Andrade was ordered detained. He has been charged with one count each of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Authorities say detectives seized some 400 grams of cocaine and a loaded gun from Andrade's vehicle and nearly three-quarters of a pound of marijuana and a shotgun from his residence.
Andrade was arrested Friday. A spokesman for the U.S. attorney says he's due back in court on Nov. 19.
A message was left for Andrade's attorney.
