Police trying to identify man killed by train in central Florida

Share/Save/Bookmark

ORMOND, Florida — Authorities say a man was hit by a train and killed after jumping onto a set of tracks in central Florida.

An Ormond Beach police spokesman says the man purposefully stepped onto the tracks Tuesday night in what appeared to be a suicide. The train had only been about 100 yards away and didn't have time to stop. The spokesman says it appeared the man tried to get off the tracks at the last second but was still hit by the train.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://goo.gl/DYW2hI ) reports that the victim wasn't carrying any identification, and police were working to identify him.
