Facade lit up on Detroit's historic Whitney Building as $92M redevelopment project wraps up

DETROIT — The facade has been lit up on downtown Detroit's historic David Whitney Building as redevelopment project wraps up.

An event was held Monday night to turn on the lights. The Aloft Detroit hotel at the building is scheduled to open Thursday along with a restaurant and lounge.

The building wasn't used for years and construction on the $92 million redevelopment began in 2013. The 19-story Woodward Avenue property also is to include apartments.
