Minot sees big increase in thefts from motor vehicles; rash linked to rise in drug activity

MINOT, North Dakota — Minot police are linking an increase in thefts from vehicles this year to a rise in illegal drug activity.

There were 282 thefts from motor vehicles reported in the city through October — an 84 percent increase from the same time period last year.

Police Chief Jason Olson says there's a connection between the thefts and increased illegal drug activity.

Authorities are telling people to keep their vehicles locked, and to report suspicious activity.
