AAA Mid-Atlantic says NJ gas prices down slightly; average for regular now $3.40 a gallon

TRENTON, New Jersey — Motorists are seeing slightly lower prices at the pumps in New Jersey.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in New Jersey on Friday was $3.40, down 2 cents from last week. That's also lower than the price from a year ago, when motorists were paying $3.46.

The lower prices end a two-week stretch where pump prices had remained unchanged in New Jersey.

Meanwhile, the national average price rose by 2 cents to $3.63. That's also higher than the national average from a year ago, when motorists were paying $3.56.

Analysts say the lower prices in New Jersey came about even though crude oil prices rose gradually during the week.
