PALMETTO, Florida — Authorities say an inmate is on the loose after escaping from the Manatee Correctional Complex.

The Bradenton Herald (http://bit.ly/11qo4Rl ) reports 43-year-old Meren Thompson walked away from the inmate farm on Sunday afternoon.

Investigators say he was likely involved in a carjacking about four miles away in Hillsborough County and may still be driving the blue 1997 Ford F150 pickup truck with Vermont license plates.

He is 5-feet-10 inches tall, weighs about 180 pounds and has dark hair and eyes.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, Thompson was serving time for contempt of court from a domestic-battery charge. He was working at the farm when he walked away.

Anyone who sees Thompson is asked to call the sheriff's office at 941-747-3011
