Man who escaped Etowah County detention center recaptured

GADSDEN, Alabama — Authorities in eastern Alabama say a man who escaped the Etowah County Detention Center has been recaptured.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Natalie Barton says 30-year-old Justin Wade Hopkins, of Collinsville, was working in the kitchen when he escaped early Friday morning.

Barton says Hopkins was captured in Gadsden by an Etowah County Sheriff's deputy who is assigned to the U.S. Marshals regional task force.

Authorities say a tip from a citizen led to the man's arrest.
