CHICAGO — Police say a 26-year-old man was shot dead during a fight in the lobby of a hotel in downtown Chicago.

The fight broke out around 2:20 a.m. Saturday at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in the South Loop neighborhood.

Some of those involved in the fight were at the hotel to celebrate a birthday. Police say one man pulled out a gun and shot the 26-year-old in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police found at least half a dozen shell casings. Broken glass and overturned furniture was strewn across the floor.

Witnesses say the gunman fled. No one was in custody as of Saturday morning.
