Wyoming Army National Guard artillery unit will be deployed to Afghanistan next August

CHEYENNE, Wyoming — A Wyoming Army National Guard artillery unit will be deployed to Afghanistan next August.

The Guard says members of A Battery, 2nd Battalion, 300th Field Artillery will assist with security efforts.

The unit has 33 members and is based in Gillette.

It is scheduled to report to Fort Bliss in Texas for training before heading to Afghanistan.

The unit previously deployed in 2003, 2005 and 2009 for security missions in Iraq and Kuwait.

Its soldiers are from Buffalo, Casper, Cheyenne, Dayton, Gillette, Hulett, Laramie, Newcastle, Powell, Recluse, Rock Springs, Rozet, Sheridan, Wheatland, Worland and Wright in Wyoming. It also has soldiers from Missoula, Montana, as well as Eaton and Thornton, Colorado.
