River Plate defeats Belgrano 3-0 and moves four points clear in Argentine first division


BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Colombian striker Teo Gutierrez scored twice as River Plate defeated Belgrano 3-0 on Sunday to move four points clear atop the Argentine first division.

Leonel Vangioni gave River a 1-0 lead in the first half, and Gutierrez scored in the 71st minute with his second coming just minutes from the fulltime.

River coach Marcelo Gallardo says "in the second half we felt the fatigue, but Teo's goal put us back in control."

River improved to 28 points, four clear of Lanus and five ahead of Independiente after 12 rounds.

In other matches Sunday, Rosario Central defeated Newell's 2-0, and Racing Club defeated Velez Sarsfield 2-0.

In other weekend matches it was: Gimnasia 0, Olimpo 0; Quilmes 0, Atletico Rafaela 0; Banfield 1, Estudiantes 1; San Lorenzo 1, Independiente 2; Defensa y Justicia 1, Lanus 2.
