HAMMOND, Louisiana — State police say a 49-year-old Hammond man died in an accident when his car struck a guardrail on Interstate 55 in Tangipahoa Parish and crossed over a concrete retaining wall.
Trooper First Class Melissa Matey says Mucio Vicencio Ruiz was driving north on I-55 shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday when his car veered off the right side of the interstate and struck a guardrail and wooden post about 200 feet away.
Matey says the car crossed over a concrete retaining wall before stopping in the northbound lane of I-55.
She says Ruiz was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
