NEW MILFORD, Connecticut — New Milford police say a woman remains in critical condition and another has left a hospital after both were struck by an SUV while walking on Route 7.

Lt. Lawrence Ash says the women were crossing the road to get to a bus stop shortly after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when they were hit by an SUV driven by a 26-year-old woman, who stopped and cooperated with police.

Ash says the women were not in a crosswalk, it was dark out and they were wearing dark-colored clothing in an area with no streetlights. No charges have been filed. The accident remains under investigation.

Police say 21-year-old Elsa Aucay of Danbury is in critical condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital. A 51-year-old woman was treated for minor injuries and discharged.
