Supporters of sales tax to increase Terrebonne school workers' salaries pitched to parents


HOUMA, Louisiana — Supporters of a sales tax that would increase Terrebonne public school workers' salaries have pitched the proposal to parents.

The system's Parent Representative Committee is made up of parents from public school. Assistant Superintendent Carol Davis and Houma real-estate agent Mike Larussa discussed the proposal with the group Thursday night.

The Courier reports ( ) voters will decide Dec. 6 whether to approve the half-cent sales tax that would raise an estimated $12 million a year. Teachers would receive a $4,000-a-year pay raise. Support workers, such as bus drivers and cafeteria workers, would receive a $2,000 annual pay raise.
