The Advocate reports ( ) Sam will be given a minimum salary of $129,500, with provisions in the contract for 2 percent pay raises annually if the board rates his performance as "satisfactory" or higher.

The school board offered Sam a contract last month following Henderson Lewis Jr.'s resignation in March. Lewis left after being named superintendent of Orleans Parish schools.

Sam's contract begins July 1, but the board agreed to hire Sam as a consultant beginning June 1 at the daily rate of pay specified in the contract.
