VAN BUREN, Arkansas — A Crawford County judge has rejected a request to seal the results of a mental evaluation on a man charged with killing his father.

The Times Record reports (http://bit.ly/ZP5GRu ) that the judge on Wednesday turned down a defense motion to seal the report on 55-year-old Eddie Hice. Public defender Ryan Norris said he's concerned that release of the report could affect Hice's ability to receive a fair trial.

Hice is charged with first-degree murder in the March shooting death of 76-year-old Herschel Hice at the home they shared.

Norris says Hice's defense will be not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. A police report on the shooting says Eddie Hice told sheriff's deputies that he shot his father in self-defense after his father threatened to shoot him.
