Ted Cruz endorses Omaha businessman Pete Ricketts in his campaign for Nebraska governor

LINCOLN, Nebraska — Republican Pete Ricketts has won the endorsement of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, a conservative leader embraced by the tea party.

Cruz praised Ricketts Tuesday for his experience as a businessman and his focus on taxes, job growth and education reform. Cruz gained national notoriety for leading the U.S. Senate opposition against the federal health care law championed by President Barack Obama.

Ricketts has also received support from former Alaska Gov. and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker; former Nebraska Govs. Kay Orr and Charles Thone; and U.S. Rep. Lee Terry of Nebraska.

Ricketts is competing in a six-way Republican primary race with Attorney General Jon Bruning, State Auditor Mike Foley, Omaha tax attorney Bryan Slone, and state Sens. Tom Carlson and Beau McCoy.
