Colorado National Monument may become a monument no more

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Colorado National Monument may have some of the most scenic landscapes in the state, but officials are considering changing the name because they don't believe the current name conveys the park's grandeur.

Names being considered include Colorado Canyons National Monument or Red Rock Canyons of the Colorado National Monument.

According to the Denver Post (http://bit.ly/IKE1ab ), a committee charged by U.S. Sen. Mark Udall and Rep. Scott Tipton is investigating possible changes to the popular area between Fruita and Grand Junction. The park committee will hold a conference call with Udall and Tipton on Thursday to discuss the options.
