Male inmate dies at Yellowstone County Detention Facility in Billings; autopsy being done

BILLINGS, Montana — A male inmate has died at the Yellowstone County Detention Facility in Billings.

Sheriff Mike Linder says the inmate, whose name has not been released, died on Wednesday.

The cause of death is being investigated.

Linder says detention officers found the man unconscious in his cell and provided medical attention until paramedics arrived, but the man died.

The man's body was taken to Rapid City, South Dakota, for an autopsy.

The county attorney's office will schedule a coroner's inquest because the man died while in custody.
