Woman killed, toddler and 2nd woman hurt when hit by vehicle while walking in western New York

ANGELICA, New York — State police say a 53-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a vehicle while pushing her 2-year-old granddaughter in a stroller across a western New York street.

Troopers say Cythnia Polanowski of Angelica was walking with a woman who was walking her dog when they were all hit by a vehicle Tuesday evening in the Allegany County village of Angelica, 60 miles southeast of Buffalo.

Police say Polanowski suffered severe head trauma and was pronounced dead soon afterward at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, New York.

The granddaughter and the woman walking her dog both suffered minor injuries, but troopers say the dog died at the scene.

The investigation continues, but troopers say the 50-year-old man driving the vehicle wasn't impaired or distracted when the accident happened.
