Crownpoint man pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter after woman run over by car last year

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico — A Crownpoint man has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of a woman last year.

Federal prosecutors say 24-year-old Sampson Antonio Jr. entered into a plea agreement Tuesday.

Antonio was arrested last July on suspicion of driving a vehicle while intoxicated and fatally running over the 19-year-old victim at Mariano Lake on April 21, 2012.

Prosecutors say Antonio admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol and driving recklessly.

He was remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service and will be detained pending his sentencing hearing, which has yet to be scheduled.

Prosecutors say Antonio faces up to eight years in prison.
