Nat'l Weather Service confirms weak tornado southwest of Indianapolis

HUNTINGTON, Indiana — The National Weather Service confirms a weak tornado briefly touched down in Putnam County southwest of Indianapolis.

The weather service says the EF0 tornado with peak winds of 70 mph touched down for a minute Tuesday evening and traveled about a tenth of a mile outside the town of Cloverdale, about 40 miles southwest of Indianapolis. The weather service says the tornado only damaged two trees.

In northeastern Indiana, Huntington County Emergency Management Director Lindsie Goss tells WANE-TV that at least 15 homes and two businesses around the city of Huntington were damaged in storms there Tuesday evening. Goss says dozens of trees were uprooted and knocked down by strong winds in the area about 20 miles southwest of Fort Wayne.
