Former Mets minor leaguer Brandon Brown suspended 50 games for positive drug test

NEW YORK — Free agent third baseman Brandon Brown has been suspended for 50 games following a positive test for metabolites of Stanozolol under baseball's minor league drug program.

The 25-year-old will start the ban after he signs with another major league organization.

He was released by the New York Mets on March 30 after hitting .222 with five homers and 34 RBIs last year for Savannah of the Class A South Atlantic League.

There have been 18 suspensions this year under the minor league drug program.
