Authorities searching for inmate they say escaped from Etowah County Detention Center

GADSDEN, Alabama — Sheriff's officials in Etowah County are searching for an inmate after they say he escaped from the county detention center.

Authorities say the inmate was a kitchen worker who slipped away from the Etowah County Detention Center shortly after 4 a.m. Friday.

The sheriff's office said in a statement that 30-year-old Justin Wade Hopkins of Collinsville was last seen running toward Tuscaloosa Avenue. He's described as a 6 feet tall white male who weighs about 220 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing tan jail pants and a T-shirt.

Hopkins was being held on a burglary charge.
