2 men avoid prison time on charges from death following fight outside southern Indiana bar

JASPER, Indiana — Two men have avoided going to prison after pleading guilty to charges in the death of a southern Indiana man following a bar fight.

A Dubois (doo-BOYS') County judge ordered sentences Monday for 24-year-old Leslie Osborn Jr. and 23-year-old Zachary Parks, both of Petersburg.

The Herald of Jasper reports ( ) they pleaded guilty to felony counts of criminal recklessness after at first being charged with involuntary manslaughter in the October 2013 death of 41-year-old Timothy Stafford of Dubois. They received three-year sentences that will be served at the county jail or on work release.

Authorities say the men punched Stafford during the fight outside J.R.'s Bar in Jasper. Stafford was knocked out, hitting his head on the pavement and died four days later at an Evansville hospital.
