Fire at plant in Geismar, sheriff confirms at least 2 injuries

GEISMAR, Louisiana — There is a plant fire at the Renewable Energy Group facility off Highway 30 in Geismar.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office says the fire was reported shortly after 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The sheriff's office confirmed that two people were injured and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. An earlier report indicated at least four people were hurt.

WAFB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1bSKU9V ) the fire has been contained.

Deputies are assuring people that while they may see smoke in the area there is no danger to the public.

Rubicon, a plant located near REG, has given a shelter in-place order to their employees.

The REG plant produces bio-diesel.
