HUNTINGTON, West Virginia — A Huntington man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison after being convicted on a child pornography charge.

Federal prosecutors say 66-year-old John D. Hayes was sentenced Monday is U.S. District Court in Huntington.

Hayes also was sentenced to 10 years of supervised release following his release from prison.

He was convicted in March of knowingly possessing child pornography on a computer at his home and tried to distribute it through a file-sharing program in 2012.

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin says Hayes was previously convicted in Putnam County Circuit Court in 1979 on two counts of second-degree sexual assault, one involving a 10-year-old girl.
