Registration open to people who want to participate in fall deer hunts at Savannah River Site

AIKEN, South Carolina — Registration is now open for people hoping to participate in a series of deer hunts this fall at the Savannah River Site.

Hunters who are interested in taking part in the six Saturday hunts that start Nov. 1 need to apply online at http://www.srs.gov/general/deer_hunt/hunt.htm .

Participants are selected by a lottery system, and officials say they expect more than 600 hunters to take part. There is also a separate hunt for wounded warriors and disabled hunters in October.

The Savannah River Site is a 310-square mile complex near Aiken. Nuclear weapons components were once made there, but now most of the activity at the site is focused on cleanup.
