MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama's top economic development official says ThyssenKrupp is exploring its options for its carbon steel mill in Alabama, but that shouldn't affect the operation of the plant in Calvert or threaten any jobs there.
Alabama Secretary of Commerce Greg Canfield said in a statement Tuesday that his department has been talking to ThyssenKrupp since the company's board said it was looking at its options for its plants in Brazil and the U.S.
Canfield says that Alabama officials have been told none of the three options being considered by ThyssenKrupp would threaten the Alabama plant or its staffing levels.
Alabama Secretary of Commerce Greg Canfield said in a statement Tuesday that his department has been talking to ThyssenKrupp since the company's board said it was looking at its options for its plants in Brazil and the U.S.
The options include:
— decoupling the raw material agreement between the Brazil and Alabama plants;
— finding a business partner to bridge the time until the demand for North American steel to rise;
— selling the Alabama plant to a third party.
