Strong first half performance leads Houston to 72-58 win over Texas-Pan American

HOUSTON — Cavon Baker scored 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field to lead Houston to a 72-58 win against Texas-Pan American on Thursday night.

Eric Weary Jr. added 17 points for the Cougars (2-1), and Jherrod Stiggers finished with 12 points and a team high nine rebounds and seven assists.

Overall Houston shot just 40 percent from the field, but hit 11 3-pointers and were a perfect 9-of-9 at the free throw line.

Shaquille Hines scored 16 points and had six rebounds to lead Texas-Pan American (4-2). Dan Kimasa added 14 points and a team high nine rebounds, and Isaiah Hobbs and Janari Joesaar each finished with nine points for the Broncs, who shot just 35 percent from the field.

Houston had a 17-5 run midway through the first half, and held a 43-25 lead at halftime.
