Northeast South Dakota man testifies in his own defense, denies raping girl

ABERDEEN, South Dakota — A northeast South Dakota man who authorities claim raped and improperly touched a girl is denying the allegations against him.

The Aberdeen News ( ) reports that 42-year-old Frederick B. Slota testified in his own defense Wednesday.

Slota's attorney questioned his client during a trial hearing in Aberdeen. Slota says he never sexually abused the girl.

Slota says he didn't deny the accusations immediately when talking to a detective because he was trying to gather as much information as possible about the girl's claims.

Authorities have said the girl, who is now 8, reported the improper contact to somebody at her school. The newspaper reports the alleged improper contact happened in 2012 at an Aberdeen home.

The rape charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison and a $50,000 fine.
