LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — Gov. Asa Hutchinson is recommending Wes Ward to the Agriculture Board as his preference for the new Secretary of Agriculture.

The governor's office announced support for Ward in the position on Friday, saying in a statement that Ward is someone who understands the state's important role in the world when it comes to agriculture.

Hutchinson also says Ward's career accomplishments as a lawyer and U.S. Marine make him well-suited for the job. Ward has degrees in agricultural business and agricultural and food law.

Ward is from Lake City and is a graduate of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
