Old railroad bridge spanning US 50 in Clarksburg to be demolished

CLARKSBURG, West Virginia — A state contractor plans to begin demolishing an old railroad bridge in Clarksburg this spring.

The CSX Railroad bridge is 14 feet above U.S. 50. City manager Martin Howe tells The Exponent Telegram ( ) that removing the bridge would allow more oversize trucks to remain on the highway instead of detouring through the city.

The Division of Highways has hired Bilco Construction Co. of South Charleston to demolish the 80-foot-long metal bridge.

Construction engineer Jason Nelson with the DOH's District 4 office in Bridgeport says the company has until the end of April to complete the work.
