Louisiana State Police spokesman, Trooper Stephen Hammons, says the victim's identity has been withheld.
Hammons says officers called emergency personnel and the man was transported to Franklin Foundation Hospital before being transferred to Lafayette General Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Hammons says Police Chief Gerald Minor asked state police to step in Friday morning. The incident began sometime after midnight when the man was arrested on unspecified outstanding warrants.
