Deputies: Homeowner fatally shoots intruder near Fort Lauderdale


NORTH LAUDERDALE, Florida — A homeowner fatally shot a man who was trying to break into his home near Fort Lauderdale.

Broward Sheriff's deputies were called to the home after the shooting early Friday morning in North Lauderdale.

Spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion told the South Florida Sun Sentinel ( ) the homeowner heard a noise in his backyard around 3 a.m. He armed himself and went to investigate.

The homeowner told authorities he saw a man trying to break into his shed and then the house. He then fired multiple shots, killing the man.

No one inside the house was injured.

An investigation continues and no further details were immediately available.
