DOTHAN, Alabama — Authorities say a pedestrian has been killed while crossing a street in Dothan.

Police say the man was struck and killed Saturday night on Westgate Parkway.

Dothan police Sgt. Scott Owens said the man was struck around 8 p.m. Saturday in front a Winn-Dixie grocery store by a vehicle that was headed westbound on Westgate toward Montgomery Highway.

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd said the man, from Florida and in his 80s, was staying in the Comfort Suites on Westgate Parkway just down from the grocery store.

Byrd tells The Dothan Eagle (http://bit.ly/1ECLTWr) that the man had been to the store, bought some items and was going back to the hotel when he stepped into the path of an oncoming car.
