MCCOMB, Mississippi — The McComb School District has hired a consulting company to help develop a model school pilot program.

The Enterprise-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1ro6WFe ) Superintendent Cederick Ellis and others visited schools in Detroit where low performing schools were improved. Finance director Cathy Jones says students there learned at their own pace and were invested in their own learning processes.

The board this past week signed a contract with P3 Strategies LLC to help shape the school system with a local planning group of educators and administrators, business and civic leaders and parents and student leaders.

Ellis says the pilot program is most likely to begin on the Summit Elementary campus in August 2015.

Ellis says recommendations of the re-designed education program are to be completed by Jan. 1.
