Man who killed after exchanging gunfire with Cheyenne police died of gunshot wound to chest

CHEYENNE, Wyoming — Authorities say a 23-year-old man who killed after exchanging gunfire with Cheyenne police last month died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports ( ) that the Laramie County Coroner's Office determined that Saige Hack did not shoot himself.

Hack was found dead inside his south Cheyenne home on July 16 after police say he shot at officers who responded to investigate a report of suspicious circumstances.

Police say two officers fired back and retreated. No officers were injured, but it wasn't immediately clear whether the man died from suicide or from being shot by police.

The shooting remains under investigation by the state Division of Criminal Investigation.
