Firm picked to find new superintendent for Vicksburg Warren schools

VICKSBURG, Mississippi — The Mississippi School Board Association will handle the search for a new superintendent for the Vicksburg Warren School District.

School board members tell the Vicksburg Post (http://bit.ly/10ZeXpP) that they hope to have a new superintendent in place soon. The fall classes begin Aug. 5.

Elizabeth Swinford will leave June 14 to become superintendent of the Tuscaloosa County Public Schools in Alabama.

The Vicksburg Warren school district has about 8,500 students; Tuscaloosa, about 17,500.

Donald Oakes will serve as interim superintendent, a position he has held three times since 2000, in addition to the two years he was superintendent.

Swinford's contract initially paid $125,000 annually. In December, her contract was extended through June 2014 and she was given a 3 percent pay raise, bringing her salary to $128,500.
