New payout process awaits victims of Indiana stage collapse as state works to distribute $6m

INDIANAPOLIS — Victims of the stage collapse that killed seven people and injured dozens more last summer are still waiting for their share of an additional $6 million payout approved by lawmakers in March because the state hasn't worked out a claims process.

WTHR reports (http://bit.ly/JteZx6 ) the Indiana attorney general's office has told claimants they will have to go through a process different than one initially used to distribute $5 million allowed under the state's liability cap.

The state says the model used to distribute the initial payments won't work because lawmakers approved specific payouts. Families of those killed will receive another $400,000 each. Those with non-permanent injuries will have 100 percent of their out-of-pocket medical costs paid.

Those with permanent paralysis or physical trauma could have their amounts determined through arbitration.
