Police investigating slaying of Philly-area teen after basketball game; victim identified

DARBY, Pennsylvania — Investigators are looking for clues in the case of a teenager fatally shot after a neighborhood basketball game just outside Philadelphia.

Police in Darby say 18-year-old Brian Christopher Brunston died at a hospital shortly after the shooting, which happened as he and his friends were walking home from a basketball court around 10 p.m. Sunday.

Police Chief Robert Smythe says investigators say Brunston and five friends were approached by a gunman, who announced a robbery. The friends took off running and Brunston was shot as he ducked behind parked cars.

The victim ran several blocks and started banging on the door of a home, before collapsing on the doorstep. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police did not immediately announce any suspects.
