SAN ANTONIO — A second person charged in a South Texas Ponzi scheme is heading to prison for bilking ex-NFL player T.J. Slaughter and other investors.

A judge in San Antonio on Tuesday sentenced Mary Alice Monteza to 10 years in prison as she claimed she's still trying to repay $850,000.

Monteza and Alan Keith Nelsen in January pleaded no contest to theft charges related to a fake international investing firm. Prosecutors had agreed to seek probation if the pair made restitution by their April sentencing dates.

Nelsen earlier this month was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Slaughter says he lost about $150,000 in the scam.

He played for Jacksonville, Green Bay, Baltimore, New Orleans and San Francisco.
